Matt Trapper, sent postward as the longest shot on the board at odds of 12-1, used a powerful finishing kick to knock out the field and capture the Saturday night featured pace
in 1:57.2 at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
In the $2,200 event, driver Brian Andrew engineered Matt Trapper's second win in a row opting not to leave the gate and placing the son of Matts Scooter at the back of the pack in the early going as Oakrock Almighty and Outlawpositivcharg battled through opening fractions of :28 and :58.
Andrew rallied last week's feature winner down the backstretch sitting fourth on the outside as the three-quarter station flashed 1:28.4. The seven-year-old son of Matts Scooter-Cinderella Cam then unleashed a :28second final quarter to secure the victory for his co-owners Bill Andrew, Jim MacPhail and George Roberts of Calgary, Alta.
Oakrock Almighty, with Ron Matheson in the bike, was second while Terry Gallant guided Outlawpositivcharg to a third place finish.
Making his 2011 debut, Saulsbrook Balance, a six-year-old gelded son of Nikes Image-Animated Lady, and driver Willie Murphy won the $1,400 Open Handicap Trot in a 2:03.4 wire-to-wire effort. Murphy sent the Cindy MacDonald trainee to the front from Post 4 and was able to hold off a late stretch surge from Dunmore Alpha (Mark Cullen) and Hall Trot (Todd Walsh). Saulsbrook Balance is owned by trainer Cindy MacDonald and Tanya MacKinnon of Souris, P.E.I.
