In a continuing effort to ensure that new race fans have the most enjoyable experience possible, a free Beginner Betting Seminar has been added to the line-up of activities set for Mohawk Racetrack’s Fireworks and Family Fun night on Sunday, May 17.
“The intention of the Beginner Betting Seminar is to take the mystery and intimidation out of betting on horse racing,” explains Tracy Richards, Woodbine Entertainment Group’s manager of Events and Marketing. Seminar hosts Greg Blanchard and Mike Hamilton will teach attendees the basics of betting in an interactive and casual manner which makes it fun and easy to learn.
The Beginner Betting Seminar starts at 5:30 p.m., and the first 300 seminar attendees will receive a free race program and a free $2 bet.
In addition, this year's Fireworks & Family Fun Night features lots of fantastic activities for the kids, including face-painting, pony rides, a petting zoo, a craft corner, live music, and video games.
There is even a special $3.50 Kid's Meal that includes a hot dog, a bag of chips, a juice box and a glow necklace. Clowns, magicians and a host of strolling entertainers will round out the festivities.
The Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society will be on hand as well, with one of its adoptable former racehorses for children (and adults) to meet, pat and admire.
Don't forget that there will be an action-packed night of live harness racing, featuring a $120,00 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold final for three-year-old trotting fillies, as well as a $40,000 OSS Gold eliminations for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings. There will be a special first race post time of 6:30 p.m., with the final race heading postward at 9:10 p.m.
The fun-filled evening will conclude with a spectacular fireworks show starting at approximately 9:30 p.m. After the fireworks, Mohawks guests can take advantage of a special free offer of a $2 show bet for the upcoming $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup on June 27.
Doors open at 5:00 p.m., and as always, parking and admission are absolutely free!
Please join us on Sunday, May 17 as we celebrate Victoria Day at Mohawk.
