A pair of $11,600 Preferreds served as the co-features for the Monday, May 13 evening card at The Raceway at Western Fair District with mild upsets served up by the victors.
In the $11,600 Preferred Pace, Ideal Perception made every pole a winning one with Anthony Haughan holding the lines for Anthony Beaton.
Ideal Perception took the early lead and never looked back, maintaining at least a 1-3/4-length buffer through panels in :27.3, :57.3 and 1:25.3 before winning by a half length in 1:54. Favoured Docsphillycheese (Alfie Carroll) surged late from the pocket, but had to settle for second and Pembroke Legacy N (Jason Ryan) grabbed third.
Lisa Lefort owns the seven-year-old son of American Ideal-Southwind Siren who recorded his fourth win in 15 starts this year and 29th career tally. In 137 lifetime starts, Ideal Perception has banked $378,960. Off a second and third in his latest Preferred appearances at the London, Ont. oval, he returned $8.60 as the third choice at 3-1 odds.
Scene A Magician took the co-featured $11,600 Preferred Trot on Monday with Garrett Rooney, who scored four wins on the card, in the bike for Jennifer Pinkerton.
Rooney and the gelding got away third through the quarter in :27.4 and half in :58.1 before pulling to the outside. The pair achieved the lead from the outside at the three-quarters in 1:27.2 before facing a stretch battle with second-over Marvin Hagler (Brett MacDonald). Down to the wire, Scene A Magician prevailed by a quarter of a length in 1:57. Takeapeek At Me (Travis Henry) completed the triactor.
Scene A Magician (Daylon Magician-Scene Duharas) is owned by Pinkerton and recorded his second win of the year in eight starts and 33rd career victory. In 149 lifetime starts, the 10-year-old gelding has banked $395,104. As the 4-1 fourth choice, he paid $9.80 to win.
