One Trainer For Nine-Horse Field

It is common to see a trainer with multiple starters in a horse race. What isn’t common is seeing a field of nine trained by the same conditioner.

A report by the Herald Sun explains that ex-harness-driver-turned-Thoroughbred-trainer John Manzelmann is the conditioner of record for all nine participants that participated in a maiden race today (Tuesday, May 13) in Mackay, Australia.

The Herald Sun article states that this isn’t the first time that Manzelmann has been the trainer of record for all the horses in a race, as he conditioned all eight starters in a race that took place two years ago.

Manzelmann said before the contest that although all of the starters would be coming from his stable, the race would actually be a good one. “There are four or five of them that can win,” he was quoted as saying.

Rocket Of Ransom, with jockey David Simmons in the irons, got up to win the race at post time odds of 5-1.
