Osceola and driver Doug McNair turned in a dominant, gate-to-wire performance in the $28,000 Preferred 2 Trot on Monday, May 12 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
As the gate folded, second choice Quebec Hanover (Louis-Philippe Roy) made a costly break, leaving 2-5 favourite Osceola free to take command uncontested. Top Mast (James MacDonald) settled into the pocket, but no serious threats emerged throughout the mile. Osceola cruised through fractions of :27.1, :56 and 1:24 before stopping the clock in an unchallenged 1:51.4 score by 3-3/4 lengths. Top Mast finished second with ease, while Phoenix (Bob McClure) picked up third.
A five-year-old son of Muscle Mass out of Armbro Exquisite, Osceola is trained by Gregg McNair, who co-owns with Willow Oak Ranch LLC of Rogersville, Tennessee and Paul Hawman of Collingwood, Ont. This was his second win of the season and 12th lifetime, pushing his seasonal earnings to $26,000 and career bankroll to $641,075.
In Race 3, B Stoney delivered a headline-worthy performance, pacing a blazing 1:48.4 mile—the fastest of the year so far in Canada. The son of Sunfire Blue Chip-Terror Proof was driven to victory by Louis-Philippe Roy for trainer Kyle Fellows.
Also on Mohawk's Monday card, one $15,000 division of the second leg of a Pop-Up Series was contested for trotters who are non-winners of $20,000 (fillies and mares $25,000) or have not averaged $1,700 (fillies and mares $2,125) per start in 2025, with a minimum of eight starts. The $25,000 final is scheduled for Monday, May 19.
The night’s division went to Market Banker, who trotted to victory in 1:54.2 for driver Chris Christoforou and trainer Camilla Christoforou.
