On Wednesday afternoon (May 12), Chip Chip Conway left little doubt as to who is the best trotter on the grounds at Monticello Raceway, as he romped to a wire-to-wire win in 1:58.2 in this week’s Open Trot.

Jim Taggart Jr. deviated from his normal come-from-behind tactic with Chip Chip Conway and elected to go to the front, showing the way through fractions of :28.4, :59.2 and 1:28.3. He waltzed home a three-length winner in 1:58.2 and returned $4.20 for win. Finishing second was Superiorcourt and Cinnamon Stick took the show position

It was Chip Chip Conway’s second-consecutive win in Open company. The five-year-old son of Conway Hall is owned by Kenneth B. Weckstein and co-owned by trainer Gary Messenger. In 10 season starts, Chip Chip Conway has won three times and has finished second twice. Today's win upped his seasonally tally $13,575 in earnings and career earnings past $190,000.

Gary Messenger is the second-leading trainer on the grounds with 33 wins, trailing leader Bo Sowers' 40 wins. Also on the card, Mike Merton drove 2 winners.
