Truth And Liberty Takes Tioga Open

Truth And Liberty won the $9,000 Fillies and Mares Open 2 Pace, which headlined the Tioga Downs card on Friday night (May 12).

The slight betting favourite, So Nice (Mike Merton), nearly pushed the gate open and was loose on the lead from the outset. So Nice upped her leading margin to three lengths after three-quarters in 1:22.4.

Meanwhile, Truth And Liberty (Aaron Byron) followed patiently in the pocket all the way to the top of the stretch. Once the six-year-old mare by Total Truth vacated the pocket, she looked like she was shot out of a cannon. Truth And Liberty blew right by So Nice in deep stretch to win by two and a quarter lengths in 1:51.2 for owner Tracy Moss and trainer Robert Lounsbury.

Truth And Liberty paid $5 for the win. So Nice hung on for second with Rock My World (Mike Simons) getting third.

Live racing returns to Tioga Downs on Saturday (May 13) at 6:50 p.m. with a nine-race card featuring the $12,000 Open Trot.
