Rock On Moe was the beneficiary of a pocket trip and scored a 1:51.1 upset win in Monday’s $17,000 Open Pace at Harrington Raceway.
The six-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding, owned by Jlrl LLC, left alertly from post seven for driver George Dennis and sat behind pacesetter Lollipop Kid throughout fractions of :27, :55.3 and 1:23.2. Rock On Moe found room in the stretch and surged by Lollipop Kid for a narrow win. Contender Just A Jolt, sent off at 2-1 and winner of four straight, was locked in fourth on the rail and lacked room until the stretch where he picked up a position late to finish third.
Trained by Rosemary Smutz, Rock On Moe notched his first win of the year after a 13-win season in 2013. Rock On Moe paid $40.60.
It was one of three wins of the night for Dennis, who joined Corey Callahan with driving triples.
