The four-year-old Vertical Horizon mare Maid In Alberta collared odds-on favourite Thats It to take the $9,000 Fillies and Mares Open at Century Downs at odds of 20-1 on Saturday, May 11.

Away fourth to a :28 first quarter, Maid In Alberta stalked Thats It before pulling first over to pursue the leader moving to a :57.4 half. Bearcat Josi joined the flow, which slowed towards a 1:25.4 third quarter as Thats It clung to a narrowing lead turning for the wire. Maid In Alberta eventually edged in front of Thats It through the lane and held off a late bit from Bearcat Josi to win by a half length in 1:55.1. Thats It faded to third.

Owned by Donald Richardson, Maid In Alberta won her first race from six starts this season and her ninth from 40 overall, earning $120,613. James Jungquist drove the $42.20 winner for trainer Harold Haining.
