“This is a big challenge but I love a challenge. I think this is a valuable complex to the province as a whole and it’s worth the effort.”
Darrelyn Hubley has begun her tenure as the new general manager of the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition, which is home to Truro Raceway.
As an article by the Truro Daily News explains, Hubley assumed her GM role on April 25. The piece also states that Hubley has a link to the harness racing industry via her grandfather, Cyril Hubley, who participated in racing in the 1960s.
Darrelyn, who lives on a hobby farm (Fox Meadow Farm) in Stewiacke, told the Truro Daily News that she has spent quite a bit of time in the field of events management.
“I’ve done a lot of events management,” she was quoted as saying. “I have about 26 years of involvement in that area and I hope to use my experience to bring about some positive changes here. This position combines the best of both worlds, agriculture and marketing.”
The article explains that Darrelyn owned and operated a bed and breakfast and a small gas company, and was also a past manager of the Atlantic Outdoor Sports & RV Show and the Halifax International Auto Show.
“I’m pretty passionate about this industry,” she was quoted as saying. “I have a hobby farm with horses and do organic gardening. I love all aspects of agriculture and felt this was a natural.”
