Luck was not on Spartacus Jim's side the last time he raced at Flamboro Downs a month ago and broke stride, but the gelding redeemed himself with the betting public's backing on Sunday night at the Dundas, Ont. track, scoring a smooth front-stepping victory in the $7,000 Preferred 3 Pace.
Favourite Spartacus Jim ($4.10) worked his way to the lead through the opening quarter and never looked back en route to a 1:54.1 victory to kick off Jody Jamieson's Sunday driving triple. Bolero Charles (James MacDonald) finished one and a half lengths behind off a three-hole trip. Rays San (Trevor Henry) rallied four-wide to come from the back of the pack and he prevailed in a photo for show.
The winning seven-year-old son of Pro Bono Best is trained by Mike Lamoureux for Ontario owners Mary Jessica Lamoureux of Chelmsford and Marc and Omer Belisle of Val Caron.
