Rock Me Please didn’t finish his rookie season on a high note, but he kicked off his three-year-old season in style on Monday evening thanks to an impressive score
at Woodbine Racetrack.
The strapping son of Rocknroll Hanover-Please Me Please, who is listed at 38-1 in the Trot Magazine 2010 Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book, rallied from just off the pace to pick up his second lifetime victory for Susan Grange’s Lothlorien of Cheltenham, ON.
Rock Me Please, who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Bob McIntosh, left quickly from post eight and found himself parked past the quarter pole in :27.1 before crossing over to the pylons for driver Steve Condren. The colt took a backseat to Art N Charm in the second quarter. That rival had the field lined up behind him at the mid-way point in :55.2.
D Gs Woodstock accelerated to the lead going into the final turn, and Condren had Rock Me Please back out and rolling on the way to the three-quarter pole. D Gs Woodstock led past the three-quarter juncture in 1:23.2 before giving way to Rock Me Please who used a :28-second final quarter to post the 1:52.1 decision.
It was a career-best performance for the talented pacer, who put together a 1-1-2 record in seven starts during his freshman campaign. He stashed away more than $187,000 in his rookie year thanks in large part to his third-place finish in the $1 million final of the Metro Pace.
