The photo finish camera was put to good use in Tuesday’s feature race at Grand River Raceway, and after close examination the ORC Judges declared Bigmizndrstnding the winner

.

Owned by Mark MacDonald, Tracy Brainard and Andrew Herzog, the Shawn Robinson pupil found his way to the winner’s circle at the Elora, Ontario oval for the second week-in-a-row thanks to Tuesday’s triumph in 1:59.2 over a track rated “Good”.

Bigmizndrstnding was saddled with a second-tier post position, but that didn’t stop him from dictating the terms. The five-year-old son of No Pan Intended got away fourth in the early going, but as soon as he hit the backstretch MacDonald punched the accelerator and rolled his charge to the outside in an all-out bid for the lead.

He was parked past the quarter pole in :28.4 before touching down on the lead going into the turn. Once on the engine, the gelding sliced out middle splits of :59.3 and 1:29.4 before using a :29.3 final frame to fine the finish line just in time. He stopped the clock in 1:59.2, winning by a nose over a very determined Chevron Hanover. Shadywood Baron was third in the $10,500 tilt.

Sent off as the 4/5 favourite, Bigmizndrstnding returned $3.90 to his backers and earned his connections another $5,250 in purse money. He has banked $250,256 to date. The victory was one of five on the card for driver Mark MacDonald.
