After a near miss in last week’s edition of the Fillies & Mares Open at Fraser Downs, Century Mach returned to the oval Monday evening and eked out a head decision in the featured affair.
Century Mach powered to the lead from Post 4 for trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt, who then hustled her along through fractions of :27, :56.2 and 1:24.3. It was a :28.3 closing quarter that sealed the deal for the four-year-old daughter of JK Royal Flush-Mach Away who won by the narrow margin over race favourite Moosette. Hottieonthehorizon took home the show dough in the 1:53.1 decision.
Sent off at odds of 3-2, Century Mach improved her 2022 record to 10-5-0 from 17 attempts. Kelly Hoerdt of Beaumont, Alta., owns the career winner in excess of $55,000.
