Windmeredontmatter Stalks And Scores

After stalking the dueling front-runners for most of the mile, Windmeredontmatter ($15.20) launched a late attack and stole the glory in the final stride on a rainy Friday night (May 10) at Truro Raceway.

Shanghai B G established the lead from post two in the $1,675 Winners Over pacing feature ahead of insider Windmeredontmatter, with even-money favourite Distinctiv Rusty settling into third. Parked from the outside post seven, Catch Twenty Two proceeded to advance through a 29-second quarter to confront the early leader and he gained a slight advantage nearing the half-mile marker in :59.3.

The top two continued to race down the backstretch past three-quarters in 1:28.2 with Distinctiv Rusty getting in on the action three-wide. Catch Twenty Two eventually pulled ahead turning for home and looked to be home free, but Windmeredontmatter surged late from his stalking position and caught that rival on the line. He prevailed in a neck decision, taking a new lifetime mark of 1:59.4 over the 'good' track for trainer and co-owner Alex Sutherland Jr.

Sutherland shares ownership of the four-year-old Articulator gelding, who is a career winner of nine races, with Malcolm MacEachen of Port Hood, N.S. Ernest Laffin engineered the winning trip, which was part of a driving triple on the eight-race card for the horseman.

Heartland Eclipse came on to take third-place honours ahead of Distinctiv Rusty and Shanghai B G.
