Tony Verruso is a very busy man. Besides running his embroidery business in Queens and working diligently as president of the C.K.G Billings Driving Series his is also an avid amateur driver

and a member of the North American Amateur Driver Association.

On Thursday at Freehold Raceway Verruso guided Enjoy The Victory to a four-length triumph in a time of 2:02.4 in the final preliminary leg of the North American Amateur Drivers Association’s Trotting Series . Peter Gerry and Drill Sergeant Sam finished second and Dave Yarock and Rompaway Alvin were third best.

“I had a good trip sitting third in the early going as Steve (Oldford) lead the way and when his horse began to give it up heading to the three quarters I popped out first-up and rolled right on by him and Peter (Gerry) who was sitting second. Once on top my horse went on to an easy victory,” said Verruso.

Verruso’s triumph with Enjoy The Victory was his first of the season and 41st of his amateur career. Trained by Nikolas Drennan for owner Pat O’Brien, the trotter paid $13.60 for win.

Now the stage is set for the $12,000 NAADA Three Track Trotting Series Final which will be raced Thursday, May 17 at Yonkers Raceway. Only the top point earning drivers in the preliminary legs will be eligible for the finale.
