J One Twenty made every pole a winning one as she took the $11,600 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Wednesday, May 1.
Tyler Borth and the Jerry Sims student achieved the early lead and never looked back, controlling the timer through panels in :27.3, :57.3 and 1:26. Down the lane, Caesars Shot (Brett MacDonald) gave a heavy challenge after popping out from the pocket, but J One Twenty held on to win by a quarter of a length in 1:55. Carsons Gouda (Travis Henry) completed the triactor.
John Obrien owns the five-year-old Artspeak-Saintsbury Lady mare with Jerry Sims. J One Twenty notched her third win in 10 starts this season and her 16th win from 36 career starts. She pushed her career sum to $95,494 with a new lifetime mark earned. As the 3-1 third choice, the mare paid $7.20 to win.
Mighty Mary (Hes Watching-Knee Slapper) won her fifth straight race at the London, Ont. oval on Wednesday with Dan Clements steering her to a 1-1/2-length score in 1:56 for trainer Jason Libby and owners Gary & Joyce Gonyou. The victory extended her perfect record for 2024 and marked her eighth tally in 21 career starts.
