"Guys wait a lifetime for one of these types of colts, but these guys have two. It's quite phenomenal, I think....These two colts would be an asset to any barn."
Lyons Levi Lewis finished in the top three in 10 of his 12 freshman starts, with eight of those either first or second.
At 20-1, Lyons Levi Lewis comes in at #8 in Trot Magazine's 2015 Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book. The stablemate of #10 in the Spring Book, Lyons Again is owned by Joseph Lyons Mound of Burford, Ont., and was primarily campaigned by Ron Burke at two. Ciaran Morrison developed both of the Lyons colts and he offered Trot Insider an update on the Well Said sophomore as he prepares him for the upcoming season.
Where did he winter?
"He wintered here at the farm (just outside Brantford, Ont.)
How long was he turned out?
"He was off about eight weeks."
Where are you at with him right now?
"He's on the same training schedule as Lyons Again [who has been in 2:18]."
Have you noticed any changes from last year to this year?
"He's matured a lot....He's a huge animal; he's really grown up, probably the biggest horse in the barn. He's a pure menace but a playful colt, a really nice colt to be around."
When will he qualify and what's his early schedule looking like leading up to the Pepsi NA Cup?
"It hasn't been discussed but I know he's eligible for [the Somebeachsomewhere] and the next step would the Cup after that."
What is he staked to past the NA Cup?
"It's across the board as well....It's always a good idea to stake these colts to every stake; even though they're close together, anything can happen...and if you miss this stake you can always go to that stake and that way you'll get a lot of good horses racing at a lot of the tracks."
