It was a Saturday afternoon that went smooth as silk for trainer Nathan Sobey, who watched four of his students find their way to victory lane during the 12-race card at Century Downs.
Among the winners he sent out was Outlaw Sharktastic in the featured affair – the $13,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred.
Sobey had the five-year-old daughter of Smart Shark-Outlaw Alleyesonme parked and pressing Myomylookatmefly at the quarter pole in :28.2. Sobey then cleared and marched his charge to the half in :57.1. They took a backseat in the third quarter to Electric Amadeus, who rolled to the top and had the field chasing her past the three-quarter marker in 1:25.2.
Outlaw Sharktastic re-rallied late and used her :29.4 closing speed to win by a length over heavily-favoured Electric Amadeus in 1:55.3. Pirate Booty tagged along to take home the show dough in the six-horse affair.
Sobey shares ownership on the career winner of $58,469 with Glenn Pinel and Paul Davies. The partners claimed the mare for $6,000 plus allowances less than a month ago and she’s now two-for-two since the acquisition.
Sobey’s other training victories included Festiveus (2:00), Matts A Mystician (1:55) and Miso Classy (1:57.3).
After manufacturing a career-best season for earnings ($732,868) in 2023, Sobey has assembled a 9-3-5 record from 34 starts this season. That translates into a solid UTR of .362 and purse earnings in excess of $50,000.
