Bob McClure treated Lexis D J to a ground-saving journey in Thursday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 for trotters at Flamboro Downs, and the veteran parlayed the trip into a 1:58.2 score in the featured dash.
Sent off as the 6-5 favourite in the six-horse affair, Lexis D J left quickly from Post 2 and wound up getting away in the two-hole behind Twiggys Twick. That foe led the group through first half fractions of :28 and :57.3 before being overtaken by Meadowview Vicky. She led the group at the three-quarter pole in 1:27.4, but the tripped out Lexis D J hauled her down when he shook loose in the lane. His :30.1 closing quarter was enough to earn him the win by three-quarters of a length over A Nashty Business. Meadowview Vicky held on to finish third.
Shane Arsenault of Waterdown, Ont. owns and trains the nine-year-old son of Amigo Hall-Lexus Lulu. It was the first win of the year in eight tries for the 42-time winner. The lion’s share of the purse boosted his bankroll to $463,842.
