Just One Day went wide down the backstretch in the $15,000 Preferred Trot and tracked down the class’s reigning champion Long Ago to notch her third straight victory on Wednesday at Western Fair Raceway

.

Last week’s Preferred Trot winner Long Ago (Bruce Richardson) left from Post 5 in the featured ninth race and maintained a comfortable two length lead on the field as he carved out fractions of :29, 1:00.1 and 1:29.4. Meanwhile, Just One Day and driver Ryan Holliday, who got away fifth, picked up cover from Zorgwijk Knight (Tony Kerwood). When that cover stalled down the backstretch, Holliday sent Just One Day three-wide and set his sights on the next target. Just One Day collared the Long Ago down the stretch and surged to a two length victory in 2:01. Flora Dream (Stuart Sowerby) came on for third.

Juts One Day paid $9.40 to win as the third choice. The five-year-old Earl-Just One Night mare is now five-for-seven on the year with over $27,000 earned for trainer David Holliday and owner-breeder Graham Jackson of Listowel, Ont. After pocketing the lion's share of the purse, Just One Day’s career bankroll climbed to over $115,000.
