The Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey [SBOANJ] and the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority have reached an agreement to keep open the Meadowlands Racetrack’s stable area all year
.
“Traditionally, the stable area would close at the conclusion of the racing season in August to allow the Meadowlands to prepare for its fall thoroughbred meet,” said Tom Luchento, president of the SBOANJ. “With the agreement reached this year to contest all of the 2010 thoroughbred dates at Monmouth Park, it becomes unnecessary for either the Meadowlands stable areas or the track surface to be changed over.”
The current harness racing meet continues through August 21 but with the elimination of thoroughbred racing dates in 2010, it has opened the way for a fall harness meet in October through December. Details of that fall meeting are awaiting legislative changes in Trenton.
