Two-time O'Brien Award winner Willys Home Run made a successful return to action during the session of qualifiers on Friday, April 4 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Driver James MacDonald positioned the daughter of Archangel - Rite Out The Park in the clean up spot early, settled into fourth as Storm Trotter (Scott Young) fronted the field of five through a :29.4 opening quarter. Once the group straightened down the backside, MacDonald right-lined Willys Home Run to vie for command. At the 1:00.1 midway mark, Willys Home Run edged in front of Storm Trotter in the midst of clearing to the top, and once she touched down she touched 'em all from there.
Through a :57 back half, Willys Home Run rounded the third station in 1:29.2 before torpedoing her foes with a :27.4 closer to hit the wire in 1:57.1. Possibly named after Mr. Bautista or Mr. Canseco, Myfriendjose finished second, more than five lengths in arrears for driver Billy Davis Jr., just ahead of Storm Trotter.
Kyle Fellows conditions Willys Home Run for owners Dr. Sara Gatchell and Jake Higgs of Strathroy, Ont., owner-breeder Reg Higgs of Blenheim, Ont. and Yolanda Fellows of Rockwood, Ont. The full sister to Logan Park sports a career summary of 10-7-1 in 23 appearances with a mark of 1:53 and more than $955,000 in earnings.
