After having broken stride in his 2012 pari-mutual debut last week, Daylon Magician was one of the stars that headlined Mohawk Racetrack's seven-race qualifying session Monday, April 30

.

The O'Brien Award winner took to the track for Race 5 and threw down a solid mile.

With his regular compadre Jack Moiseyev at his lines, Daylon Magician lined up in Post 3 and shot to the lead early, as he carved out the opening quarter in :28 and lead the field down to the half-mile marker in :58.

The student of trainer David Lemon cruised along the final bend in :29.1, and started to put forth some more trot after having clicked the three-quarters timer in 1:27.1. Daylon Magician, a four-year-old son of Kadabra, sealed the deal with a :27.2 final quarter and posted a three and a half-length victory in 1:54.3.

Race 6 saw another O'Brien Award winner in action, as Dreamfair Eternal recorded her first charted line of the 2012 racing season for trainer Pat Fletcher.

With Jody Jamieson in the bike, Dreamfair Eternal started from Post 5 and tucked in third, as the Roger Mayotte-trained and driven Roll On cut the fractions in :29.3, :59.1 and 1:27.4.

Jamieson asked Dreamfair Eternal in the final quarter, and the eight-year-old Camluck mare kicked into gear. Bearing down on Mayotte, Dreamfair Eternal closed in :26.1, but Roll On held off the charge to post a head victory over the lass in 1:54.4.

Three-year-olds eligible to the 2012 Pepsi North America Cup were also in action during the session, as Race 4 featured Dapper Dude and Thinking Out Loud.

Thinking Out Loud, who is 45-1 in Trot Magazine's NA Cup Spring Book, bettered his rival during the dash. The brown Ponder colt was a front-end victor for trainer Bob McIntosh and driver Randy Waples. After starting from Post 4, Thinking Out Loud cut the fractions in :28.1, :58.2 and 1:27.2 and kicked home in :26.3. The win time was 1:54 and the margin of victory was one and three-quarter lengths.

Dapper Dude, a chestnut son of The Panderosa, started from Post 3 and sat third through the fractions for driver Steve Condren and trainer Bob McIntosh. The 35-1 Trot Spring Book shot flashed a high gear late in the mile, and came home in :26.2 to finish second.
