On Wednesday, March 30 at Western Fair Raceway, Trevor Henry qualified for the 2011 National Driving Championship by finishing second in the Ontario Regional Driving Championship, which was won by Jody Jamieson

.

A little over a week later on Friday, April 8, he was involved in an accident in the first race at Western Fair Raceway. Henry sustained what was thought to be minor injuries but a closer examination revealed a shattered knuckle. On April 14 he had surgery on his hand to repair the shattered knuckle on his left index finger.

“I had a great surgeon. He put a screw on each side of the knuckle, then a pin through each side and if all goes well, in about four weeks, the knuckle will be as good as new,” explained Henry.

Henry had to wait until April 20 to get the go ahead from his specialist in order to reconfirm his participation in the NDC. And it was thumbs up!

“I was a little nervous,” admitted the 40-year-old Arthur, Ont. resident, "I wasn’t sure if I’d get the go ahead but I did and obviously I want to compete. I’m getting older and this might be the best shot I ever get to take part in this.”

Henry drove in two qualifying races at Mohawk Racetrack on Friday and reported that his hand felt fine and gave him no problems.

The winner of 3,830 races and purse earnings in excess of $24.6 million will be driving in 34 races between Clinton, Grand River and Western Fair prior to his departure on May 5 for Prince Edward Island for the National Driving Championship.

“I’m really looking forward to the National. It will be a lot of fun to drive at a different track that I’ve never driven at.”

The 2011 National Driving Championship takes place on Saturday, May 7 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park. Racing starts at 6 p.m. The first 500 fans will receive a FREE souvenir, four colour NDC poster. The drivers will be on hand for a “Meet and Greet” autograph session from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. in the grandstand.
