The Meadows Standardbred Owners’ Association (MSOA) has announced a pair of programs to benefit those that work at the heart of the industry -- caretakers
.
The MSOA’s Board of Directors has voted to reduce the premium for caretaker health insurance by 50 per cent, from $100 to just $50 a month for qualified individuals.
According to MSOA executive director Kim Hankins, “The caretakers do so much for both the horses and their fellow horsemen, and our Board wanted to find a way to not only benefit those that are already part of the insurance program, but also to encourage more to sign up.”
Additionally, the MSOA Board voted recently to create a MSOA/Groom Retirement Program, similar to its program for drivers and trainers.
“The MSOA will be one of the few associations in North America to offer such a program,” Hankins said. “Again, it’s the same theory for us. These people dedicate their lives to working behind the scenes and ensuring the success of the sport, and we needed to find a way to support them as they have supported us through the years.”
