Century Downs Harness Season Begins Saturday

Century Downs will launch its 2026 harness racing season with a 10-race card this Saturday, April 4.

The Calgary, Alta. oval will host live racing on Fridays at 6:35 p.m. MDT and most Saturdays at 12:45 p.m. MDT through the end of the meet on Aug. 29. There will be no live racing on Saturday, June 20 or Saturday, June 27. Century Downs will also host racing on Wednesday nights at 6:35 p.m. MDT in June and on July 8 and July 15. Additional cards are scheduled for Sunday, June 21 at 12:45 p.m. MDT and Tuesday, June 30 at 6:35 p.m. MDT.

Stakes action begins on June 6 with eliminations for the Shirley McClellan and Moores Mile Breeders Stakes ahead of the $90,000 finals on June 13, and continues all summer long. Other stakes highlights include the first two legs of the Alberta Sires Stakes for three-year-olds and the opening leg for two-year-olds as well as the mid-summer classics, the Gord & Illa Rumpel and Ralph Klein Memorials with $85,000 estimated finals on Aug. 8.

The opening day program this Saturday features a $16,000 Preferred Pace in race nine and the return of sub-1:50 track record holder Shark Week and Alberta Driver of the Year, Mike Hennessy. The Rod Hennessy stable star will start from post five with barnmate Outlaw Game On lining up to his right in rein to Logan Gillis. The morning line favourite in the field of eight is post three speedster Midnight Mover, a multiple Preferred winner last year with a 1:50.4 lifetime mark taken at Century Mile which was the fastest mile of the year in Alberta. The seven-year-old son of Mystician will be driven by James Jungquist in his debut from the red-hot stable managed by Rebecca Kanak, who is fresh off a chart-topping March meet at The Track On 2.
