Master Clave was a repeat winner in the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings thanks to his 1:58.4 score during Monday’s card at Dover Downs.
Ross Wolfenden rolled Master Clave to the lead from Post 4 and together they led the field through fractions of :28.3, 1:00 and 1:30.2 before punching home in :28.2 top win the $20,000 tilt. Master Kingpin was next best, with third prize going to Dusty Fool.
John Wilkerson trains the son of Master Lavec-Dilly Dally Delia for owner Benjamin Brooks of Delmar, MD. It was the seventh career tally for the photogenic performer. He paid $2.20 to his backers.
Jiggs took the other $20,000 division in 2:00 for driver Victory Kirby and trainer Leigh Raymer.
Race favourite Moonshine Lavec shot to the top and carved out splits of :29.1, 1:00.3 and 1:30.3, but Jiggs fired home in :29.1 to win by a neck over that foe in 2:00. Yagot A Winner took home the show dough.
It was the first win of the season and the third to date for the career winner of $62,400. The son of Giant Hit-Mystic Hill is owned by Rodney Mitchell, Jr. of Viola, DE.
The top eight point-getters after two prelim divisions return next Monday for the $100,000 DSBF Final.
Tuesday features four $20,000 divisions of the DSBF sophomore filly pace preliminaries plus a strong $20,000 Mares Open pace.
