Patriarch Hanover emerged first from a blanket finish at 9-1 to score in the $32,000 Preferred 2 Trot, which highlighted the 10-race Woodbine Mohawk Park card on Monday, April 29.
Patriarch Hanover and driver Doug McNair left alertly from post five, moving to the lead before being covered up by Looks Like Moni and James MacDonald through a hot opening quarter of :27. Patriarch Hanover watched from the pocket as Perfetto (Dagfin Henrikson) never found a seat on the first turn and pushed to the lead through a half of :55.4.
No rest came to Perfetto on the lead with 3-5 favourite Southwind Coors (Chris Christoforou) immediately applying pressure first-over on the turn with the trotters racing through the rain to three-quarters in a blistering 1:23.4. Patriarch Hanover and McNair found a hole and tipped to the outside third-over on the turn with two lengths to make up on the duelling leaders at the top of the lane. Winding up a :27.4 deep stretch rally, Patriarch Hanover emerged atop a mad dash to the wire as the trotters swarmed the tiring leaders. Patriarch Hanover hit the wire first a neck clear of a closing Franks Angel and Bob McClure in 1:52.1. Looks Like Moni claimed the third spot.
One of two victories on the night for McNair, the Preferred victory was the second straight and fourth of the season for Patriarch Hanover through 15 seasonal outings. Trained by Richard Moreau, the seven-year-old son of Father Patrick-Personal Style has racked up career earnings of $832,971 for owner Brad Grant to go along with 25 lifetime victories.
