Scott Knight was in the bike for owner and trainer Kelly Hoerdt as he worked out a pocket trip with Century Mach to prevail in the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Open Handicap on Thursday evening (April 27) at Fraser Downs.

Miss Itunes (Allan Molloy) took the early lead and held that lead through the quarter in :27, half in :55.4 and three-quarters in 1:23.1. Knight and Century Mach rode the pocket trip through until the stretch, where they tipped out and passed the leader, winning by 1-1/2 lengths in a career-best 1:52. Moosette (Brandon Campbell) was second and favoured In High Cotton (David Hudon) was third.

Century Mach boasts a record of 4-1-4 in 13 starts this season and 23-13-9 in 67 career starts with $132,053 in lifetime earnings. The five-year-old daughter of JK Royal Flush has not found herself out of the money this season, despite starts in the top class every week. The time of the mile just missed the 1:51.4 track record for older pacing mares.

Hoerdt watched from the sidelines as his trainees posted four victories on the Thursday evening card. Accompanying the feature winner Century Mach were Chocolate Terror (Campbell), Havinfuninthesun (Campbell), and Rockingtherepublic (Molloy).
