The six-year-old Big Jim mare Saulsbrook Jessie took the lead early and delivered as the 8-5 favourite in the $12,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Wednesday (April 27).
Driver Austin Sorrie sent the Ronald MacDonald pupil to the point from post five and cleared command before a :28.3 first quarter. She snagged breathers to a :58.3 half and three-quarters in 1:28.3 while enduring first-over pressure from Escape The House before turning that challenger away and coasting to a 1-3/4-length win in 1:57.4. Ladies From Hell, off a pocket trip, finished second with Marzannk Hanover closing for third.
Owned by Edward Gorc, Saulsbrook Jessie won her fourth race from 11 starts this season and her 23rd from 90 overall. She has banked $211,316 and paid $5.40 to win.
