If everything falls into place, Quebec may have live racing at more locations than just county fairs in 2010
after all.
The Quebec Jockey Club this week unveiled its new information website at www.clubjockeyduquebec.com, and president Tony Infilise writes that the track has applied for permits to present 10 live cards at Hippodrome de Quebec in Quebec City, from September 25 to October 24, after getting approval from the municipal corporation that owns the site.
The last card would include the traditional five-mile race that's been contested in Quebec City for a century.
The commitment from Quebec City does not extend beyond 2010.
Purses would total about $20,000 per program -- a modest sum, but understandable given that the jockey club currently is generating revenue only from internet wagering that began in March, Infilise said.
It's shooting for purses of $2 million in 2011 and $3 million in 2012 as part of a gradual rebuilding process.
