Grand River Raceway (GRR), with support from Ontario Racing, has announced that it is proceeding with the construction of a five-eighths-mile track.
Work will begin mid-August 2023 and is set to be completed by the end of April 2024.
The work being done also includes new LED lighting, track surface and timer boxes.
“This is a great opportunity for GRR and we are eager to begin working on this project,” said Doug McCaig, Facilities Manager, Grand River Raceway. “The track expansion is a strong addition to the racing community here in Elora and the surrounding area. We thank Ontario Racing for their commitment and support in helping GRR bring this project to life.”
The track expansion from the current half-mile oval will further elevate the racing experience at GRR for the horses, horsepeople and racing fans.
The reconfiguration plans were initially announced in July 2021 and deferred in October 2022.
GRR will welcome fans back to the track for its 2023 harness racing season, starting Friday, June 2. This year will mark the track's 20th racing season.
