Despite the fact that he didn’t race as a rookie, it’s safe to say Mohawk Seelster is a colt who was worth waiting on.
The three-year-old son of Sportswriter-Macapelo Rose drew headlines before he even had a harness on thanks to the fact he was the $220,000 sale topper at the 2017 London Selected Yearling Sale.
Now Mohawk Seelster is making headlines for the talent he’s showing on the racetrack. He won last week’s debut in 1:56.2 and he followed up that victory with a 1:53.3 score in a $16,000 conditioned assignment Thursday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Mohawk Seelster, who is tabbed at 110-1 in TROT Magazine’s 2019 Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book, enjoyed a pocket trip behind Silver Beast through fractions of :28, :58 and 1:27 before those two pacers went into sprint mode. A :26.2 closing panel was enough for Mohawk Seelster to edge past Silver Beast in the closing strides for the half-length decision.
Eric Adams trains the talented colt for Millar Farms of Stouffville, Ont. He’s stashed away $15,500 to date.
