Can Zip The Lip Repeat?

Published: April 25, 2013 11:13 pm EDT

Zip the Lip and driver Brain MacPhee will look for back-to-back wins in Saturday’s Open Trot at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino.

MacPhee sent Zip The Lip to the front early last week and never looked back, winning in an impressive gate-to-wire effort. The five-year-old son of Ken Warkentin has drawn Post 5 this week and will need another strong effort to see the winner’s circle again.

Brian Andrew will look to continue his hot streak on Saturday’s card. Andrew kicked off the spring meet with a training and driving triple last week, winning aboard Matt Trapper, Every Day and War Cry Ranger.

War Cry Ranger had the rail last week and hit the wire first in 2:00:1 despite the track being rated two seconds off. This week, the six-year-old son of Camystic will move up in class and has the Post 8 to deal with in Race 10.

Every Day moves up as well, and will take on the top class in Race 11. Andrew and Every Day had a wire-to-wire score from the pylons in their last start, and will face the evening feature from Post 7.

Meridian Farms will send out the classy veteran Matt Trapper in the finale. Matt Trapper was on top of his game last week winning by 8-1/2 lengths in 2:00:1 He's in a little tougher this week with serious competition coming from Beechwood Tiger, Deuce Man and Blue Meadow Willie.

Race fans are reminded of the promotional plays on the program. The Play Four, Super Pack, Pick Five and Wild Horses are all available for customers.
