Just six days after winning a conditioned event at Flamboro Downs, Sicario ($3.20) found the winner's enclosure at The Raceway at Western Fair District after bottoming out his Preferred 3 foes in Wednesday evening's (April 24) $9,400 featured trotting event.
The 12-time winner was in play right from the start, pushing through at the pegs for position in a three-way battle off the gate. He was able to seat All Out Henry (Scott Young) on the first turn, but 11-1 shot Full Of Pride (Marc St. Louis Jr.) elected to battle on up the backstretch. After stinging Full Of Pride to a :27.3 first quarter and then yielding, Alfie Carroll slid Sicario out of the pocket to immediately reclaim the lead with over five-eighths to go, and the pair asserted their dominance from there. Sicario left a spent Full Of Pride well in his wake after a :57.3 half and drew off to put 4-1/2 lengths on the field through three-quarters in 1:27.2.
Rounding the far turn, Lets Leavem (Colin Kelly) worked into second after slipstreaming the cover of All Out Henry up the backstretch, and started to encroach on Sicario's lead in the final eighth. In the end, odds-on favourite Sicario maintained two lengths of clearance and won in 1:58. Lets Leavem was 6-3/4 lengths clear of Liam Needsome (Robert Shepherd), who rallied mildly for third.
Richard Moreau trains Sicario for Rick Rier, Pamela Hehn and John Hehn.
