Prospector Claiming Series Continues

The Prospector Claiming Series continued Saturday night at Georgian Downs and a pair of Rene Allard pupils swept both $12,000 divisions

Spender Hanover won the first division for Team Allard after sitting sixth through the early fractions and making a three-wide move at the third quarter mark. With Simon Allard at the controls, the four-year-old gelded son of Cams Card Shark-Special Beauty kicked home in :28.2 to prevail by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:54.2. Favourite Real Energy (Mike Langdon) finished second and Unopposed (Anthony Haughan) was third.

Spender Hanover returned $5.00 to win as part of the second choice 3-2 entry. Trainer Rene Allard and Gilles Fleury of Mascouche, QC claimed the winning bay on March 25 for $10,625. Spender Hanover, who finished fourth in last week’s opening leg of the series, has won two out of three starts racing for his new connections.

The Allard-trained Doeswhathepleases went wire-to-wire in the second split, winning in 1:53.2 in rein to Scott Zeron. Beechwood Tiger (Stephen Byron) finished 2-3/4 lengths behind while Doeswhathepleases’ even-money entrymate Rich Raider (Simon Allard) rounded out the top three.

The four-year-old son of Western Hanover-Please Me Please returned $4.00 in winning for the second time in nine 2010 outings. Allard also shares ownership of bay with Julie Sergi Waxman of Hamilton, ON, and Alan Alber of Thornhill, ON.

Rene ended the night with a training triple while his brother Simon drove four winners on the 12-race card.

The Prospector Claiming Series, for non-winners of $60,000 lifetime as of March 15, 2010, will wrap up on May 1 with a $35,000 (added) final.
