Spectacular Bay Takes Fastest Scranton Division

Ray Schnittker collected training and driving doubles as two of his trotters emerged victorious Friday, April 23 at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs

One of his wins came with Spectacular Bay in the Scranton Trot for three-year-old fillies that were non-winners of $25,000 life or non-winners of three extended pari-mutuel races life through March 15, 2010.

In the second division of the opening leg of the Scranton Trot, Schnittker quickly put Spectacular Bay on the front end from the one post, taking the seven-horse field to the opening panel in :28.2, half in :58 and three-quarters in 1:26.4 before winning in 1:55.2. The Andover Hall filly is now two-for-two in 2010, winning April 10 at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in non-winners of one extended pari-mutuel race with a time of 1:57.2.

The opening Scranton Trot division was captured by Closeness, reined by Jim Morrill, Jr. The time of this mile was 1:57.4.

Greathallofchina, trained by Donald Wiest and driven by Anthony Napolitano, went wire-to-wire in the third and final division of the Scranton Trot, stopping the timer in 1:57.1. Greathallofchina is three-for-three in the win column this season.

Friday's featured $28,000 Open Handicap Trot for fillies and mares was won by Lavec Dream and Matt Kakaley. Lavec Dream, coming back to the races after a several month layoff, overcame the eight post to win in 1:54.1. Prior to this race, Lavec Dream, trained by Peter Kleinhans, hadn’t raced since January 15 at the Meadowlands.
