Despite winning featured races in back-to-back weeks leading up to Wednesday's (April 21) $14,000 Fillies and Mares Open at Saratoga Casino Hotel, Surreal Feeling was sent off at 5-1, yet, true to her form, proved victorious yet again.
Alek Chartrand picked up the catch drive behind the Dale Lawton trainee, whose early speed is so strong that she had no trouble making the lead, even from post seven. Surreal Feeling paced a :57.4 first half, was relatively untested through three-quarters in 1:26.1, and kicked away from her rivals for an open-length, 1:55 score. Miss Irish Rose A (Larry Stalbaum) sat the pocket and finished second, while Thats Incredible (Brett Crawford) earned the show spot.
Surreal Feeling, a six-year-old daughter of So Surreal, is owned by trainer Dale Lawton in partnership with Chris Lawton. She paid $13.80 to win, and led a $147 exacta and $880 trifecta.
Live racing returns to Saratoga on Monday afternoon (April 26) with first post set for 12 noon.
