Windsun Cheyenne ($22.20) circled odds-on favourite Cobalt Man en route to a 1:53.2 score in the co-featured $8,550 Not Listed Preferred Pace on Sunday (April 22) at Rideau Carleton Raceway, while Pasadena Star ($11.90) sprung a mild upset from the pocket in the co-featured trotting event.
Windsun Cheyenne took full advantage of a hotly contested pace en route to his 10-1 upset in the top pacing event (race 10), circling four-wide off the home turn under Stephane Brosseau from a third-over trip after stalking D J Power (Louis-Philippe Roy) and Atomic Million AM (Jonathan Lachance) through contested splits of :26.3, :55, and 1:23.2. While D J Power shrugged off Atomic Million AM at head-stretch, Windsun Cheyenne lifted to just collar him in the final yards of a 1:53.2 mile while also staving off the late-rallying Ufdragons Rocket (Pascal Berube) by a nose. D J Power narrowly held third over odds-on favourite Cobalt Man (Guy Gagnon), whom Windsun Cheyenne passed in upper stretch as his rally commenced.
Gina Bragagnolo owns and trains Windsun Cheyenne, an eight-year-old Cams Card Shark gelding who has now won 18 races in his career.
In the Not Listed Preferred Trot (race 12), trainer-driver Stephane Pouliot secured the pocket with Pasadena Star early, letting Torches Angel (Roy) clear at the completion of a :28 first quarter and drafting comfortably throughout. With odds-on choice Raising Richard (Darrell Coville) applied sustained first-over pressure to the pacesetter, Pasadena Star was able to stalk middle splits of :58 and 1:27.1 before diving to the open stretch and striking the front a sixteenth from home. The seven-year-old Kadabra gelding drew away by 1-1/2 lengths to prevail in 1:56.2, while Torches Angel narrowly held the runner-up spot over Raising Richard.
Pasadena Star, owned by 9096 9205 Québec Inc., earned his second consecutive win and the 28th of his career.
