Update On Ron Turcotte

Published: April 22, 2015 01:17 pm EDT

The spokesman for hall of fame Thoroughbred jockey Ron Turcotte has announced that the 73-year-old has been released from hospital and is recuperating at home after being involved in a single vehicle accident in New Brunswick on March 9.

The accident took place on the Trans-Canada Highway near Four Falls, relatively close to Turcotte’s residence.

Turcotte, the jockey of the great Secretariat, was paralyzed from the waist down in a 1978 racing accident at Belmont Park in New York. He suffered two broken in the March accident.

An article on islandpacket.com has quoted Turcotte’s spokesman, Len Lusky, as saying that his legs "appear to be mending in good order" and that casts are supposed to be coming off in the coming weeks.

A great Canadian icon in the world of horse racing. I’m sure my thoughts and wishes for a full recovery will be echoed by all.
