Showing no ill effects from a layoff of nearly seven months, Pearly Princess stormed home on Thursday to win in 1:57.2 in her division of the Hidden Viggorish Trot
at The Meadows. The clocking equaled the fastest mile this year by a sophomore filly on a five-eighths mile track.
Pearly Princess was a one-time winner as a rookie, and that victory came in a division of the Pennsylvania Stallion Series. She ended that campaign in late September with two performances marred by breaks. In the Hidden Viggorish, however, she left alertly for Tony Hall and eventually tucked in third. She powered through the stretch and handed the 1/5 favourite, Agenda Tom Ridge, a seven-length spanking. TSM Meadow Miss finished third.
Joe Offut trains the daughter of S Js Caviar-Rosemont Princess, who lowered her lifetime mark by more than two seconds for owner/breeder Christian Stoltzfus of Ronks, PA.
A 15-race maiden entering Thursday’s leg, Flawless Lindy was parked the first quarter in her division before clearing to the lead for trainer/driver Rod Bolon. She faced no serious challenges thereafter, though, winning comfortably in 2:00.3. Play Broadway was next best with Caviar And Kisses third.
James Snyder of Wooster, OH owns the daughter of Cantab Hall-Classically Designed.
The Hidden Viggorish final, with an estimated purse of $25,000, is set for next Thursday.
