Retros Mystery continues to roll at Century Downs, collecting his sixth-consecutive victory with a lifetime-best 1:52.3 mile in the $8,100 feature pace on Sunday, April 21.
The five-year-old Mystery Chase gelding cleared control from the outermost post and led the quintet to a :27.4 opening quarter. Chalk Player stalked from the pocket as the pace chilled to a :57 half while Appellate, sitting fourth, soon angled off the rail in pursuit of the lead.
Accelerating to a 1:24.2 third quarter, Retros Mystery owned a length on Appellate attempting to pressure first over and widened that margin to two lengths turning for the wire. Retros Mystery strolled to a length-and-a-quarter victory as the odds-on favourite while Appellate finished second, three lengths ahead of Chalk Player in third.
Owned and trained by Stewart Waterman, Retros Mystery won his 12th race from 71 starts and surpassed $100,000 in earnings. David Kelly drove the $3.50 winner.
