Three-year-old pacer Artache Hanover left the top colts from the Pacin N Racin Series in the dust as he romped to a dozen-length 1:52 career-best victory in the $27,300 final at Kawartha Downs on Saturday night
.
Bob McClure sent the round two winner to the lead from post four and cruised past fractions of :27.2, :56.2, and 1:24.1. Artache Hanover had a two and a half length lead over the field at the third quarter mark, but extended that margin to 12 and a quarter lengths with a :27.4 final frame. The 1:52 winning time was the fastest yet this year for sophomores on a five-eighths mile track in Canada. Top Of The Mark (Gord Brown) and 6-5 favourite Ez Otto (Jonathan Drury), also a second leg winner, rallied wide from the backfield for second and third place honours.
Artache Hanover is now three-for-four on the year with a second place finish in his other start. Hamilton's Jim Carr owns the Western Ideal-Artaffection colt while Chad Milner handles the training duties.
The 9-5 second choice paid $5.90 to win.
The series was for colts and geldings that are non-winners of $30,000 lifetime as of March 23.
