Striking Lyric held off a quick closing Celebrity Abs to win this week’s edition of the $13,000 Preferred #2 for male trotters Tuesday at Georgian Downs.

The eight-year-old son of Striking Sahbra, who was the runner-up to rival Celebrity Abs last week, left sharply from Post 3 with Jody Jamieson back in the bike. The bay led the way past the first quarter in :27 and half in :56.3 then fended off the heavily favoured Mystical Ryan (Sylvain Filion), who went head-to-head with the pacesetter past the third quarter mark of 1:25.4.

Striking Lyric, the 2-1 second choice, managed to hold on for the win by half a length as Celebrity Abs (Rick Zeron) angled wide and rallied down the stretch to fill the runner-up spot. Titan Park (Michael Langdon) rounded out the triactor again. The time of the mile was a season’s-best 1:56.2 for Striking Lyric.

Robin Furlong trains Striking Lyric for Michael Wassilyn of Toronto, Ont. In 13 outings this year, the veteran gelding has recorded two wins, five seconds and one third earning $43,550.

The win was one of four on the card for Jamieson.
