Armor Hanover, by SJs Caviar, scored in the Sunday (April 2) feature at Saratoga Casino Hotel, as the Doug Berkeley trainee went coast to coast in the $12,000 Open Trot.
Bruce Aldrich Jr. piloted the eight-year-old trotter, who finished third in last week’s Open, and guided him out to the front end.
The race’s top two betting favourites, Cash Me Out and Slugfest, each got parked the mile, and Armor Hanover held strong in the stretch to win in 1:57.4.
Cincinnati Miss (Frank Coppola Jr.) came on to be second, while Cash Me Out (Jim Devaux) salvaged the show spot in the six-horse feature.
Armor Hanover, a 10-time winner last year, scored for the first time in his three 2017 starts on Sunday. Returning $16.60 to win, Armor Hanover led an exacta and triple that paid $72.50 and $339.50, respectively. For Aldrich, it was his third winner of the day.
Live racing resumes on Thursday afternoon with a 12:15 p.m. first post time.
