It has been reported that the Ohio Racing Commission has adopted new rules in regard to the whipping of horses in races.
An article by the Nordonia Hills News Leader states that the commission approved the new rules on March 30.
The report explains that the updated rules require drivers to give the horses they have whipped time to respond to the action before whipping again.
The article says that the rule changes still have to be okayed by a pair of other state boards, and that process could take three to four months.
The Nordonia Hills News Leader has reported that the new rules pertain to the distance and angle that whips can be raised and that excessive, indiscriminate whip use is prohibited.
