After an accident in late March put Phil Hudon on the sidelines, the popular horseman was back in action during the session of qualifiers on Friday, April 19 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
A career winner of 4,746 races, Hudon sustained fractures to his T2 vertebra in his thoracic spine and coccyx (tailbone) when he was unseated during an accident at Mohawk on March 30. He made his return in the eighth dash on Friday morning aboard Give Me Karets K, a trotter he trains and co-owns with Jen Lucier.
The sloppy surface during the Friday session was no issue for Give Me Karets K, as the five-year-old son of Encore Encore easily captured his test, three lengths in a lifetime best 1:57.2 effort.
That mile clearly didn't impact Hudon as the Burlington, Ont. resident picked up another drive in a later qualifier aboard pacer Pirate Hanover.
"The test run felt good," Hudon told Trot Insider. "We'll see how it feels later but all good, ready to roll."
