Woodbine Mohawk Park's Thursday qualifying session opened with a parade of Luc Blais trainees owned by Determination winning in identical times before O'Brien Award finalist The Joy Luck Club earned her second qualifying win of the year.
Bob McClure drove Determination's winning trio of four-year-old trotting mare Dream Together, four-year-old pacer Hurricane Beach and four-year-old trotter Jake in the morning's first qualifiers. The Blais trainees all clocked 1:56.3 winning miles over the 'good' track. Last year's Matron Stakes winner Dream Together trotted a final quarter in :28.2 to pull 11-1/2 lengths clear of the first field.
Pacing mare The Joy Luck Club, who won her four-year-old qualifying debut in 1:57 last Friday at The Raceway at Western Fair District, scored in 1:56.1 during Mohawk's Thursday qualifiers. Driven by Doug McNair for trainer/co-owner Mark Horner, the Ontario Sires Stakes graduate took the lead from Champagne Phil after a :28.1 opening quarter and clocked middle splits of :56.3 and 1:25.3 before holding off Talbot Romeo by one length.
