Tricky Nick pocketed Barn Girl early, then held her off late to capture Wednesday’s $18,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.
Tricky Nick worked hard to get the lead for Jim Pantaleano but eventually was able to put Barn Girl, seeking her fourth consecutive win, on his bumper. The five-year-old Bands Gold Chip-Broader Ambition gelding downed Barn Girl by a length in a career-best 1:54.2 while TSM Photo Bugger raced well first-over for show. Richard Perfido trains Tricky Nick, who lifted his lifetime bankroll to $183,254, for Thomas Mattingly.
Dave Palone piloted five winners, including three for trainer Ron Burke, on the 13-race card.
Live racing at The Meadows resumes Saturday, the final day of the current meeting. Because pools can’t be carried over to the next meeting beginning May 6, Saturday’s Pick 4, Pick 5 and final superfecta of the card are all “must pay.”
Saturday’s program features the championship legs of four series for three-year-olds, which will offer total purses of $107,000. First post is 1 p.m.
